Single storey side extension infilling the natural indent to the rear of the semi-detached Victorian home in order to enlarge and modernise the existing kitchen.
Maximising the ingress of natural light into the existing accommodation as well as the new space created was central to the design, particularly as the existing rear sash window to the dining room would be lost as a consequence of the proposed extension.
A patent glazed roof supported by exposed Oak beams was designed allowing the volume of the space to be celebrated and a good level of natural light to enter and seep into the dining room via the opening maintained where once the sash window stood. The use of natural materials and wall colour washes enhances a sense of warmth and comfort making one wish to linger.
